“Chaos breeds when the will to succeed exists without the will to learn.
Poem by Tylor Santos
Artwork by Flora Hogg
I was born blue
Perception of myself I was told to
Pay homage to the fallen victors who it’s owed to
Redirect the karma that they grow through
And how they told you
Skin
Skin tag of a name, watch them tag along
King erratic and shamed
Quite the vagabond
Others static and claimed
One should match a tone
Only to uphold a certain standard
Couldn’t fathom pawn
Faith was rather drawn for you
But not within
Indifference be the matter that they sold you
Block the wind
The truth floats
but over time amassed in kin
Watch the fat rise but baptized
And that was skimmed
So
You’re taught to recognize varied functions
And things collapse when we fall victim to our own assumptions
My energy lies in my adaptive gumption
My energy lies when I feel I have nothing
My energy flatlines when I remain capsized
And white suits with black ties capitalize on black lives
And they call timeout as if it’s halftime
And entertain us to distract us from the pain painted as past times
Where’s the demise in that
When we just sit here and revise the facts
Where’s the pride in that
I’ve decided that
I can’t rely on lack of knowledge
in hopes of this active drama
In quotes can collapse the power
In votes from the active scholars
So till it’s all agreed
So till we stand in arms
And till we all belong to the earth that we stand upon...

I’ll embrace the unknown until I become familiar with every fold and follicle.
I’ll be wrong, as an opportunity to be right.
Chaos to you
Is a perspective shift.
And I won’t recognize it as
Just disorder or confusion anymore.”
